Description
Dirty Magazines 2008
39min | Short, Comedy, Drama | 21 August 2008 (USA)
Storyline:Based in the ’80s, a mother/son relationship takes a wild left turn after she discovers adult, all-male material under her son’s bed the morning of his 16th birthday! Trying to find out what this “really means,” each take some non-traditional steps to get to a new understanding and how to deal with it. Universal themes of family love, dysfunction and acceptance are at the heart of the film.User review:I’ve seen this movie as a part of the Gay Propaganda Night short film festival, a compilation of 9 or so mainly funny coming-out-stories from the States and Europe. Being 42 myself, this is not exactly my topic at this stage of my life. Still, Dirty Magazines – easily the best movie of the evening – managed to take me back to those times of my own coming out emotionally, because of it’s vibrant 80s setting and feel, combined with the brilliantly OTT story and figures. Imagine the drama, hysteria and glamor of Dynasty, mixed the humor of Soap. Oh, and some excellent 80s disco-pop tracks thrown in for extra pleasure. Entertaining and funny as hell, yet heartwarming – don’t miss it or you’ll miss something good!
