Do Me Evil 1975
X | Adult, Crime, Drama | 1975 (USA)
A dark film about two brothers, one retarded, the other “normal”. The normal one believes his mother has a preference for the weaker son and sets out to destroy him.
Bizarre and sometimes disturbing art/porn film from director Toby Ross, this film offers a very involving storyline to accompany all the sex depicted on camera. A tale of incest, abuse, death and self-destruction unfold as the viewer is introduced to one very dysfunctional family unit. As young children, Rodney and his younger, mentally handicapped brother look on as their father performs a piano recital in their living room. Neither the children or the mother seem to find it odd that daddy is stark naked while “tickling the ivories,” and the story becomes more bizarre from there. Jealous of the attention showered on his younger, handicapped brother, Rodney abuses him when he can, both psychologically and later, sexually, and the brother just wants to please his older sibling, because of the affection he has for him. When the boy commits suicide Rodney’s sanity unravels and he ends up working the streets as a prostitute, and even eating out of the garbage and succumbing to his own, self-inflicted demise. Suicide, homelessness, tears; not things one would expect to be faced with while watching a porn film, but this is what makes this one so special. “Do Me Evil” is from that time when adult films were actually shot on real film stock, and this is a real film. Featuring some bizarre and interesting characters, the most entertaining being the old man in the pawn shop, and filmed in some weird and seedy locations. The film score is pretty impressive as well, alternating between classical and some of the best 70’s porn style music ever recorded for adult film. The sex scenes are truly erotic, and are given an extra edge by involving incest, prostitution, and (suggested) underage encounters. Some will probably be a bit disturbed at the appearance of little children in a film like this, and although they are not involved in the erotic elements, there is one scene where a little boy is watching through the keyhole, his two male babysitters having sex, and I found it to be very creepy. This would not be made today, but it is a fascinating relic of a time gone by. Very rare, but worth tracking down for fans of weird, underground cinema or classic porn films, “Do Me Evil” is one of the best.
