John and the Hole 2021
1h 38min | Drama, Thriller | 6 August 2021 (USA)
Storyline:A coming-of-age psychological thriller that plays out the unsettling reality of a kid who holds his family captive in a hole in the ground.User review:Wowowowow. I went into this thinking it would be a bit more graphic, I guess I would say, but it wasn’t. And that was perfectly okay. This film got under my skin. Charlie Shotwell plays this part too well. He made me feel so nervous the entire film and I still can’t shake those feelings. This film does such a great job at building tension due to Charlie’s performance and also the score (I’m obsessed).Yes, this film doesn’t necessarily build up to anything but I was totally okay with that. The ending is so ominous… almost terrifying in a way. It works for what we we’re shown. My only complaint is the scenes spread throughout of a child being told the story of John and the Hole?? I’m still a little lost on that front and kinda wish they’d left that out.I’m very excited to see who snags this one up. Honestly seems like a film A24 would be racing to get their hands on. Very excited to see how more people react to this film.
