Daniel fait face (original title)
59min | Drama | 19 November 2018 (France)
Strange things are happening at a school in France, something unknown is approaching, something enchanting and dangerous. In a dream-like timelessness, children dance the tango and recite poems. All at once, Daniel is alone with Marthe.
What motivates curators to invite such a production to an A-List festival? In addition to the children’s program? Questions about questions that Atlan poses with her feature film debut and which she hopes to answer some after the premiere. In any case, one thing explains to her in a double sense with a symbol-laden theater overloaded elementary school piece: how much cross-border exposure and overbearing performance in 60 minutes fit. There is the dressing of the little Marthe ( Madeleine Follacci ) to the ethereal striptease, the 10-year-old title character ( Theo Polgar ) pursued out of the hidden lascivious. The scene does not show a romantic awakening, but is an adult fantasy populated with underage actors in soft porn optics.
