User review:

Why Kenneth Branagh?????? Why would you do this? Why take a great book one which reads in such a cinematic way and do this to it????? I know the film has to change things to make sure it stays fresh but this is truly awful. What have you done????? Bad story telling, bad effects a script that treats its audience like idiots and no development of some of my favourite characters I have ever read! I have not been this disappointed since The Golden Compass and we all know what happens to that film. Roll on the TV series’s in ten years!

I’ve been unable to find a copy of this movie anywhere and completely despaired of ever seeing it. I’d heard that it wasn’t that good, but I was very pleasantly surprised in that regard. Although Artemis Fowl is supposed to be an evil genius (a character I wouldn’t be able to enjoy – there are too many movies about anti-heroes these days, and I’m sick of that genre), he only calls himself that and is perceived by many to be that way, but in fact is misunderstood. The movie was action-packed, the plot was fun and interesting and the CGI well done. I really wish there were more of these movies.
