Storyline:Diogo (17) has a little quirk: he likes to call his mother’s female therapy patients and masturbate while listening to them on the phone. One of these patients is Angela (43), a woman who was just left by her husband When Diogo calls Angela, she thinks it’s her husband calling. She starts having a relationship with the silence on the other end of the line. But when she finds out it’s Diogo, she’s disgusted. She’s furious. But, most of all, she’s attracted to this person who showed so much interest in her. The only person who called her every day. So what began as a very unusual relationship soon evolves into something positive for both of them. Diogo helps Angela see that she can have a new beginning, after dedicating all her life to her failed marriage. And she shows him his way to independence. But they have to face a number of obstacles as they try to be together. There’s the age difference, Diogo’s mother, and, especially, his own path to adulthood. Is this path going to lead him closer or further from Angela?User review:First film by director and screenwriter Felipe Sholl, Fala Comigo is a provocative love story that goes very well with his daring proposal. Walking on the razor’s edge, the filmmaker balances reasons and emotions in a romance between different generations: the teenager Diogo (Tom Karabachian) and the forty-year-old Angela (Karine Teles).Diogo is 17 years old and is the son of a therapist, Clarice (Denise Fraga). Appropriating, without his mother’s knowledge, the phones of his patients, he acquired a habit that is becoming an addiction: he calls these older women and masturbates, listening to their voices, saying nothing.One day, he calls Angela. The latter thinks that her silent interlocutor is her ex-husband, Otávio, who abandoned her. The boy’s calls are repeated, not least because Angela makes confessions that pique his curiosity, as if he were the therapist. The story progresses until a tragic incident leads to a direct encounter between Tom and Angela.The moment the film invests in this relationship, moralistic rashes are suspended – which will be defended, in due course, by the outside world, represented by the boy’s parents and his schoolmates (whose feelings oscillate between shock and envy).The objections to the novel have the firmest representative in the mother, naturally shocked by everything that is happening – and Denise Fraga is the actress in the measure to take on all the human nuances of this mother, who vehemently confronts the patient.Assuming freedom as the horizon, the film portrays a relationship as any other person would be, with its limits, circumstances and contradictions. And so, love can show itself just as it is.
Fala Comigo won the awards for best film and best actress (Karine Teles) at the Rio 2016 Festival.
